Sure, it's part of the experience, but it's really irrelevant to taste, and most people holding their glasses up to the light wind up looking like pretentious jackasses. I won't argue with the rest; it's obviously true that a nuanced tasting has to be done with more care. But I bristle when reviewers waste time describing how a beer looks (and help me if they breathlessly go on about "lacing").
